Go figure, I don't check the download page for PokerStars for a while, and lo and behold, there is a mac client now!

    Huzzah!

    PokerStar Freerolls
I didn't even realized that I hadn't posted in a while, but there you go. School tends to crush my free time, and what time I do have, I find it hard to get the motivation to reboot into Windows to launch my poker client.

The few times that I do, though, it has been good times playing some freerolls on PokerStars. I've been really getting into Omaha these days, but trying to keep track of the percentages are really wrecking havoc on my Hold 'em game.

I do wish that PokerStars would release a mac client like FullTilt. Alas!

    NL Omaha H/L
Wow. So, when I set myself idle (because real work came up that I had to finish), I had almost 30,000 chips. Just blinding myself down, by the time I was able to log back in, almost 2 hours later, I found that I had dropped out at 143 out of 9982 people. Not bad for just blinding! Especially since the payout was at 99 people.

So, that worked out well. I'll have to try again -- maybe I'll do pretty well and actually get into the money next time.

    Long time no cards
I haven't been playing a lot, but I recently just started playing the freerolls on PokerStars, just to get back into the hang of things.

So, just for the hell of it (while I wait for another NLE game to start up), I decided to play some NL Omaha H/L.

Oh boy! In 2 out of three 3 hands, I hit quad kings and flop a wheel straight flush. In mere moments, I jump to almost the head of the chip stacks because of two crazy hands.

I got so distracted playing NL Omaha that I completely forgot about my NLE game and ended up going all in with J3o just so I could concentrate on the NL Omaha. Man, I am starting to enjoy Omaha.

    Posting again...
It's sad that I wasn't reminded to update here until I saw that it was that time of year again for the Poker Stars Blogger Tournament.

That said, real life has been taking a toll on my poker playing. Now that there not much in the way of online play anymore (Poker Stars's lack of a mac client is killer for me. :( Although Full Tilt does have a mac client. I grabbed it but I haven't registered yet...)

But, I guess I'll start with my most recent AC trip. 1/2 NL (this is a positive story, since my last 1/2 NL foray ended in a terrible dismay failure):

I don't remember many big hands - there were three that stood out.

    1) Crazy action. I've got pocket jacks, five-way after call-raise-re-raise(me)-call-call-re-call pre-flop action. Flop comes 7-10-9, two of one suit (clubs?). And here's where the action goes crazy. Before I know it, there's a 30$ bet and three callers. I can't resist and I follow along - overpair, gut-shot, and a runner-runner-flush draw possibility. The turn is a blank and someone goes in for a hundred. An all-in call follows and I have to fold. What am I doing? Luckily, it turned out to be a good laydown - the turn-better had flopped two pair. (Although, really, playing T7o with a raise and reraise? C'mon.)

    2) I have AK (I think this was one hand later) on the BB. It folds around to the SB who completes so I raise. Flop comes TJx, rainbow. SB checks, I raise, SB calls. Turn is a blank. SB checks, I go all in with my few remaining chips and SB goes into the tank. I'm hoping he folds when he calls. I'm sad when he turns over JQo. Then the river comes up a Q and the SB cheers for a brief moment before I go, "Oh, I hit a straight." and suck out on him. I felt a little bad. ;)

    3) Two hands later, I do it again, catching the straight on the river. Not my fault this time though, since it checked around to the river and I led the betting on the river (which someone then re-raise and I took advantage).

So, yeah, that was my day. An overall positive day so that's good - maybe I'm easing back into NL play. We'll see if I can get into the habit with some neighborhood games.

(And maybe this will be enough of a real post to get me into the blogger tournament. ;))

    Unreal.
That's really the word that I've gotta use for this tournament. You know there's a saying, never make any decisions after 2am, no good ever comes of it. It's a good saying. I should follow it. Instead, I went and played a 10+1 on Party.

The game starts slow, just folding around. I don't think we make it to the turn in the first two orbits. Then it gets a little unreal. I'm in the SB with A3d. I hit two diamonds on the flop, hit my third on the turn and nail the fourth on the river. Sadly, I can only induce one of my two callers (the short stack!) to come all in with me.

I claim the first kill. ;)

    It goes downhill from here.
Two others go at it, and two pair gets nailed by a full house. We're down to 8.

I look down at KQh in LP. I min-raise, and it folds to the blinds, who both call. Flop comes Tc4hQc. Hmm, top pair, 2nd best kicker, with a backdoor. Not bad. SB bets, BB calls, I raise, SB re-raises (leaving himself 114 chips), and I think about it. Finally, I re-raise just enough to bring him all-in, since I had him covered. He flips over pocket 4s. Ouch! Turn is 8h, which gives me hope. My backdoor might come through! The river is 8d, sealing my fate. But, I'm still in.

I fold a bunch of hands. Two more people go at it, and 8th place's pocket 7s get cracked by A2c. How? Runner-runner 2s to give him three of a kind. ;) I just stare and go, "Wow."

Then, it's my turn. I get dealt Qd3h in the BB. Everyone folds, SB completes, I check. Flop comes 3dQh6c. Fantastic, right? SB bets, I raise (min-raise), SB thinks (goes into the time bank) and then re-raises. I look over the board again. I've got just about every hand beat except for pocket Qs, 3s, 6s or Q6. I figure, what the fuck? It's late. I push, he calls and has me covered.

He flips over pocket Ks. I'm ahead! Woot! Turn is a 6, I've got the dreaded three pair and he has 2 pair, Ks and 6s. The river is a K, giving him a full house. I'm stunned and sad.

Like I said, unreal. This crab is heading to bed, where it is warm, instead of the cold poker table out there.

    WSOP
I just read on PP that there were freerolls (3,500 cap), 12 times a day that can get you an entry into a freeroll satellite that can get you a WSOP seat. Not to mention the other PP methods and cheap satellites.

It seems WSOP is being pushed big time by PP this year. It almost seems silly not to give it a good run. ;)

    Crab Season
It's been a long time since I've posted. Let's just say I've moved from 10+1 SNGs as my primary game to the 2/4 Limit Hold 'em, again mostly on PP.

The transition was largely painless. I figure I was playing 2/4 at the casinos anyway, why not try it online? And the competition there wasn't any harder than at the lower tables so it looked like a good fit. This isn't to say that it's been all smooth sailing. I had a pretty big variance hit a few weeks back that ate up almost 2/3rds of my bankroll, and to be honest, my bankroll isn't even really set up to handle the kind of variance that 2/4 can have. Despite that, a few days of tight play later, I'm back above the water mark and rapidly approaching another watershed moment. So, that's good.

Today, I had the most amazing run of cards, I think, ever. The session ran from 11:08 to 11:40.

    WRGPT 15: Knockout!
I'm out of the WRGPT - with 2600 chips left, I decided to make a stand with the ducks. I had two callers, and I was off to the races, vs A-10 and A4o.

Sad for me, the flop was A-10-Q. ;) And really, that's when I stopped reading.

Still, 523 out of 1285. Not fantastic, but decent enough.

The TBW still have two members in the running though!

[info]aplacental is currently 501 out of 1285 with 2950 chips and [info]bobby_the_worm is currently 428 with 9025 chips.

    Good luck, guys!

    2+0 MTT
I figure after my fantastic SnG, I'd give this a shot.

    Final score: 138/1585.

    Total winnings: 2.85.
    Total profit: 0.85.

I finally made it into the money! ;)

    The best tournament evar.
I just had my best and fastest SnG (that I've won) ever. I started at 11:34. I ended at 12:12, first place. With the exception of maybe less than 7 hands where I was not in the chip lead, I dominated this tournament.

How dominated you might ask? My first hand, I went from 800 to 1810 and knocked a person out with a full house vs a straight. ;) By hand 25, I had over 3000 chips, compared to my closest stacks over close to 1500 and 1900, I think. ;)

By the time it came to head's up, I had over 6700 chips to the opponent's 1300. ;) I'll post a link to the full text of tournament in a private post but man. This tournament just /felt/ great. :)

    10+1 SNG NLHE
I had a pretty good night with this tournament. I felt good throughout most of this tournament, making (IMO) good laydowns and good calls. I took 2nd place, when I went all in, head's up, with kings, but I'll show the hand later.

    10+1 SNG:

    Third hand:

I'm UTG and I get dealt two black Aces. I do a min raise and everyone folds to the SB. who raises it by another T115. I figure, I've got aces. What's the worst that can happen? So I go all-in, which SB calls. Cards flip, and he has pocket 9s. The board comes 74362, three hearts. Lucky for me, mine didn't get broken again and I do a little better than double up.

I figure I've got enough cushion to sit and wait for a while now. I end up playing one more hand when I'm on the SB to complete with 67 off. I figure 5 chips, what the hell. Flop comes 562, rainbow. I go for a min-bet and get raised. Hmmm. I re-raise - I figure he didn't hit the flop and has a draw at best. He calls and we see the turn which is a 9s. I open with a T100 and he folds. Sweet!

Blinds are 50/100. I just watched the most spectacular meltdown ever. Second big stack goes all in with cowboys against medium stack who turns up aces. Aces hold up, and second big stack is down to 200. Next hand, he goes all-in again, flipping up KJ, which hold up against pocket 3s. The very next hand, he goes all in again and flips up AK. Sadly, he doesn't catch an ace and falls to pocket kings. Within five more hands, people go all-in crazy and we're down to 5.

Blinds are 100/200. Small stack goes all in and gets one caller. He flips up A9off. The caller flips up Qs and they hold up. It's down to 4.

Two hands later, I'm in the small blind. Play folds to me. BB has T925 left so I do a min-raise to T400 with A8off. BB calls. Flop comes 76T, two spades. I figure, inside straight draw, what the hell? I do a min-raise of T200. BB goes all in for T525. I call the T325 bet and we flip up. He's got K9off. The turn comes a 9s and I make my straight. River is a blank and I take his T925 chips for my own. I'm sitting pretty at T3415, the clear chip leader.

This is where play slows to a halt. Everyone is in the money and no one wants to make a move. We manage to stay at three players until the blinds hit 250/500, which is a full round and a half later.

I'm on the button and I'm dealt K9off. I figure the BB (who is short stacked at T1330 after being blinded) is going to make a stand so I fold it to the SB, who raises it another T1250 to T1500. BB goes all in, SB calls. I can't blame BB for making a stand with pocket 7s, but SB has AToff and catches an ace on the flop to take the hand down.

Head's up, I'm the small stack at T2800 to the big stack's T5200. Blinds are 250/500. The next hand, I'm on the BB and has 4Toff. My opponent (who has the screenname 'janie112') completes and we go to the flop. J25, rainbow. I check and the SB checks. The turn shows another 5 and I decide to make a strong bet of T1500 into the pot of T1000. SB folds.

T3300 vs T4700, now. I'm on the button. As an aside, if there's one lesson I learned from Doyle Brunson's head's up play, it is always raise on the button, no matter what two cards you have. I raise to 750, BB folds.

T3800 vs T4200. I look down at K8off. SB completes, I raise, he folds. Success!
T4300 vs T3700. Blinds now 300/600. I fire again from the SB position, raising min-bet. BB folds. (I had 56off).
T4900 vs T3100. This time, I actually have a hand. ;) SB completes and I raise all in. I'm sure he was tired of me stealing the blinds and he calls. He flips up K9d vs my pocket Qs. Flop comes 787. Turn is a Jd. I'm suddenly concerned, as he has four to a flush. River is a 4c and that dream is dashed.

T8000 vs T0. I am victorious! Five hands, five wins, and I take down the tournament. :)
